Doritos recently decided to discontinue their collaboration with a transgender influencer, Samantha Hudson, after discovering she had made inappropriate social media posts in the past. The snack brand’s Spanish division had featured Hudson in a promotional video titled “Crunch Talks,” which was removed a day later due to public outcry. Continued below the video
Hudson, a 24-year-old singer known for her work in Spain, faced criticism for several controversial posts he/she made online years ago. In one of these posts, he mentioned wanting to do “thuggish things” to a 12-year-old girl, among other disturbing comments. Doritos Spain, upon learning about these past statements, quickly ended their relationship with Hudson, stating they do not support any form of violence or sexism.
The controversy gained more attention when right-wing social media in the United States encouraged a boycott of Doritos, similar to the boycott Bud Light faced after partnering with another transgender influencer, Dylan Mulvaney. At this point in the game, Americans are fed up with the whole Trans issue.
Hudson has since apologized for her past tweets, explaining that they were meant to be provocative and were written in poor taste when she was younger. He stated that she used to think “dark humor” was amusing and regrets her past actions. Sure, and we believe him, right? lol
Doritos clarified that Hudson was not an official brand ambassador, and the video featuring his was not part of any ambassadorship agreement. As the situation develops, it remains to be seen whether Doritos will face a boycott similar to Bud Light’s or if their quick response to the controversy will mitigate potential backlash.
